Economic East

I have now finished my economeast article and it is currently being proofread and edited. During the activity we have been voting on which front cover we want to use for the magazine based on what the layout team has created. We have been very happy with the result and the new layout team seems to have a very good understanding of design which is great to see.

Medical society

In medical society we have done more of the differential diagnosis activities. They have also improved with more complex illnesses and symptoms which change over time. This has also been very interesting and added a new element to what was perhaps getting a bit stale. This added challenge also makes it more realistic to how doctors experience patients in the real world.

Service

I have now begun a new service as part of my NYAA gold award. This is also a school service where we go to a retirment home and talk to the residents there. This week was my first time and I was quite apprehensive to go especially because I was joining the service half way through. However, it all worked out well and I was able to talk to a few of the residents. Unfortunately a few of the residents did not speak english fluently which made it difficult as I had to talk with a few people before finding one which I could have a proper conversation with.

Rock climbing

I have now come to the end of my time rock climbing, it has overall been a great activity and something which I have greatly improved in. Whilst I still have a lot more potential improvement, due to timing issues I cannot continue. However, it has given me a great insight into the world of rock climbing and a new appreciated for just how difficult it is a times. Whilst it may look easy from the outside, the technique, strength and training required is immense and I am happy to have partaken in it.
Economic East

We have now begun writing our article for economeast, being in grade 12, we only write a single article for the magazine. I found it quite difficult to decide exactly what I wanted to write on but came up with the idea to write on Tesla's new solar cells. These are solar cells for the roofs of houses which look identical to standard roofs, something quite interesting and will potentially be useful in the future. I didn't find this article too difficult to write due to my practice last year and once it was done it was sent to the editors.

Medical society

We have continued medical society with these differential diagnosis activities, I have been finding them a lot of fun as they are at times similar to a puzzle where we have to work together to diagnose the patient. Overall I have found them a really good activity to gain an insight into the life of a doctor. Whilst the activity may be based towards the life of a general practitioner I feel like many of the skills are applicable to all areas of medicine.

Rock climbing

Rock climbing has continued with my partner and I now trying even more challenging trails. Whilst some of them have been too difficult for us and we have not been able to complete them, we have made good progress on a lot of them. Rock climbing has overall been quite a bit more difficult than I originally thought and is definitely a lot more difficult that the school rock climbing wall. I have unfortunately also found out that rock climbing will be moving from a Thursday to a Monday which means that I will no longer be able to attend it one this season is over which I am very disappointed about.
Economic East

The new leaders for economeast have now been decided on, they all seem to be excited for their new roles and eager to begin. The new layout team consists of 3 grade 10s who seem to know about the indesign program which is very helpful. We have been helping answer their questions as they familiarise themselves with the layout of the magazine. In the next few weeks we will begin writing articles.

Medical society

Medical society has continued with us now doing differential diagnosis activities. Here we are given a theoretical patient with symptoms where we have to list out all possible illnesses which they may have. Then, we have to go through each illness one by one until we have the most probable illness. This is the same method employed by many hospitals around the world to diagnose patients. I found it very interesting and quite a fun activity to do, we worked in teams and eventually managed to diagnose our patient,

Rock climbing

We have been improving quite noticeably in rock climbing with us mostly working on our bouldering. We both find this very tiring and straining to our body however it greatly improved our technique and helps when we climb the walls themselves. We have been quite consistent in climbing the normal walls and are gradually trying new routes and are able to complete them most of the time, showing a large improvement from when we first began.
